Social
Media Popularity vs. 90s Popularity in School
B.S.M. - Before Social
Media
As a millennial 90s kid
and teenager, I was not the most popular kid in my honor roll gifted classes
growing up. I knew, like, 4-5 kids
growing up, maybe 10 or 15 friends from school by the time I dropped out
of art school or college.
A.S.M. - After Social
Media
I recently did an
internet search for my pre-internet friends. They all had social media files,
but most of them went onto lead pretty
normal down to earth non famous lives. And the fact that each of them only had
like one to two friends on Google+ if that shocked me. Is that how they wanted
it to be? Meanwhile I ended up with 1,000s of people claiming to be my friends,
an army of "fans" and admirers and friends.
But I didn't have
social media pre-internet era. For a while I was just a normal kid. Nothing all
that spectacular about me, well, on the surface anyway. I didn't get noticed a
whole lot.
