Why I HATE The "Future of Animation"

Why I HATE the post-Adventure-Time School of Animation "design".

College kids don't know a fucking thing about how to draw well with a pencil....

Here's the deal with poorly drawn shows like Adventure Time, Uncle Grandpa, Gravity Falls, China Illinois, Squidbillies, Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, Clarence, Regular Show, and Steven Universe. It's an approximation of a line. Not one placed in a sketchbook or on computer paper by an artist, which theoretically is no different than that Pixar or Kung Fu Panda CRAP. It's not design at all. It's automated, autocorrected digital gobbledeegook. Not real art at all. Not pen work, pencil work, or line quality goes into it. Books like Bone, Tank Girl,  Calvin and Hobbes, and Spawn and many modern manga and bandes dessinee are all primarily still drawn  by hand. Hand drawn art in comics and animation has a certain textural feel to it. It doesn't feel pooped out of some PC processor's wacom answer to penmanship.

Graphics software and pen and ink tablets "autocorrect" mistakes without the artist even erasing any of his or her lines himself. It's just insane! The level of detachment an artist places between him or herself and his or her drawings.

When I see art I want to feel something. I want to know the artist took the labor and skill to put it there. If an artist didn't actually commit it to paper, you can usually tell by the feel. The drawing will feel automated, anonymous, empty, lifeless and hollow. At least have the decency to stylize some of your work and commit some of it to paper with ink and lead. Don't just hide behind photoshop all day. I don't care how many hours you're putting in. If you're not doing REAL Drawings, you're not doing REAL WORK, whether you're in Japan OR Europe. Pick up a goddamn pencil and make some good old fashioned lines happen. Don't be an automated robot cyborg. It will show. Your drawing won't be your own. It will be you're software's and computer's.

Amazon, and the Importance of Having Work to Show a Publisher, Digital or Otherwise

Amazon is a business. It works like a business. Amazon has begun thinking and acting more and more like an all in one publisher, distributor, marketer, and promoter in its own right. All you really need is the pages, the PDF files, or the books and the content to publish online. That's what I ended up doing. Amazon has unveiled its own content distribution venue, and I happened to have content to circulate (END TIMES).

Thanks for the couple dozen extra dollars, Lord.

Primetime Saturday Night. The New Appointment Television the Animated Week in Review: Animation Domination vs. [adult swim] / Toonami (verdict: Equally good)

Best shows on Saturday: Toonami, and Ax Cop.

Ax Cop was worth checking out, giving off a borderline Boondocks vibe at certain points, what with the detailed character designs and the action movie sequences, which were highly entertaining.

Diaper Wearing Shit Smelling BRATS, and Wannabe Rivals

Also, I don't have any enemies or rivals in 2-12 children's cable TV animation in America just like I don't have any enemies or rivals in the sitcom industry. It's not my industry. No matter what they do or say, they're moving in the wrong direction and pursuing something greedy and idiotic: Namely making animation that only caters to children. This includes Manboy shows like family guy that cater to Adult Children, young middle school teens, and not real adults.

Okay class, now lets all turn to a page from JOE'S DICTIONARY: Today's word for English and Grammar Class: Team Rocket Syndrome

Team Rocket Syndrome

noun, Psychology, Economics,  Television, Pop Culture
1. Moral role reversal, Good  becomes evil, evil becomes good. Cool turns into geeky, geeky is turned into good. Masculine becomes feminine. Righteousness is perverted and mocked in favor of shiftiness. Jesus becomes Hitler. Hitler becomes Jesus. Good is evil, evil is good. The fool  gets promoted to "hero", and the former heroes  get demoted and likened by way of PR, to villains and deviants.

2. Post 9-11 Era of TV, Where the moral context of TV shows encourages to treat the noble hero archetypes as villains in place of the deviants being villainized as they deserved to, pre-2002. Most prevalent in the American traditional media and Hollywood industry. Most notably In the United States West Coast at companies such as Viacom, Time Warner, Disney, and NBC Universal.

3. TV airwaves circa 2002-2012

I'm J.M. Matthews. "Confusing the Market" is my Middle Name

As it turns out, the initially confusion of the literary market by people who thought I was some kind of bible thumping zealot just because my book had the phrase "End Times" on the cover (instead of, you know opening my books and reading the content to realize it's a goth comic), was where the initial controversy came from. Zealots and fundies were drawn to my title, but that's about ALL they were drawn to.

Name Politicking", and other Pre-Production Era Horror Circus Acts

I never really made a big deal out of naming things or giving the things I did titles. To me it comes easy. But some people really split hairs over that kind of thing, because the name helps introduce or  break the ice of the brand.

For instance, if you're working on a super-project under a code name, but you begin publishing bits and pieces of it online, and it catches on, you're going to want to  consider publishing AS THAT code name, seeing as if people are already responding to the code name, there might be no need to alter or change it after all. Some execs are so terrified of "confusing the market with more than one of the same name", the "name politicking" of the whole situation gets to the point of a actually coming across as attention whoring, ludicrous, and ridiculously annoying.

"SEE!? SEEE!!?? I have the same NAME/PROJECT TITLE (SIMILAR TO) as him, therefore we're ASS-OCIATES!"

Me: Well, you're an ASS-,....something. But that doesn't mean "you EARNED being associated with me"!

Muse Visitation Hours: Art Ninjitsu and the Art of WAITING For the Muses to Strike at the Right Moment

Thrill of the New - There's always a thrill in brainstorming sessions and spending my free time coming up with new material, both art and writing. Like this journal for instance, lately I don't try to force it. I just wait for the muse. After 2 whole days of waiting for my muse to arrive, it was thrilling and fun to finally read articles that provided me with inspiration. Inspiration is never forced, but practice is. I'm already comfortable with muse-waiting for my writing. I'm getting more used to it with my art. Art is a bit trickier. Less Rational and more Intuitive

I Think the Term Your Forgetting to Describe Cartoons With...Is Hyper-Competitive

Whether it's comic books, film and TV animation, anime, or manga, let's face it, the Media Arts has become a cutthroat, hyper-competitive industry. Artists get ripped off, beat up on, and refused credit for their contributions all the time. If you work in animation or comics anywhere, I'm sure you already know what I mean.

There is an army of artists desperate for sales, bragging right, power, influence, fame, money, employment, shelf space, and attention, and who will hang onto the cottails of the next animation wonder kin, or whoever's got a publishing or studio contract and an agent at the moment. These hangers-on don't care who it is, as long as they're employed by SOMEBODY, somewhere, either because they are complete groupies and hangers on, or because they're hoping to "Flatter their way to a job".

The people running and operating these industries aren't much better in truth.

I Share a Birthday with the First "Real Cartoon Character", Mickey Mouse

November 17th.

LOVIN', It's WHAT I GOT. I SAID REMEMBER DAT.

Holy Shnikes I hit the motherload of cool stuff in terms of ordering comics from Amazon. I  got a  bunch of books delivered to my house that recently arrived. Books from Fung Chin Pang (C.A.T.), Oni Press, Ted Naifeh (Courtney Crumrin), Jeff Smith (RASL), DreamWave Comics (Image, Shidima, Dark Minds, Arkanium), and Norihiro Yagi (Claymore). Just one big stack of incredibly fun graphic literature.

The other literature I got in the mail? The Savage Sword of Conan: Volume One (Marvel, Dark Horse), 3-4-5 More Claymores by Norihiro Yagi, Spawn Simony (French version of Spawn, localized in English), Invaders From the North: How Canada Conquered the Comic Universe by John Bell (cover by SETH), Free Culture: The Nature and Future of Creativity by Lawrence Lessig.

I Miss The Fighting Days

I actually kind of miss the early days when I actually COULD logon to fight cyberbullies who talked smack and actually bother to defend myself, and not just let some asshat attack me online. I used to enjoy challenging these trolls's opinions and slags DIRECTLY. It was enjoyable kicking people's asses.

That was the Good Old Days, when the trolls didn't outpopulate me 1,000 to 1. Oh well.

DVD-Disc Going Out of Business Sale

I'll tell you one thing. I'm not buying Anime DVDs anymore. I'm using the Pirate Bay and Funimation.com, DirecTV DVR Streamer, YouTube, and Roku to watch things. It's cheaper, and I can eat until my belly is full! DVDs are becoming a relic, either fortunately or unfortunately. Expensive DVDs are going out of fashion and plummeting out of public favor. The DVD anime market is doomed. Or so it would seem. Not my fault. Just because DVDs are less efficient than my invention, streaming video, doesn't mean streaming is bad or wrong. Video killed the radio star. Streaming video killed your DVD sales.

Let me spell out the raw data:

You know how many videos I watched through streaming and piracy sites like Pirate Bay in the last 2 months???

1,000s! 1,000s of video streams! For just 1 person.

Wanna know how many anime DVDs I bought in the same amount of time?

2.

2 DVDs. Air Master and Dead Leaves, and it's mostly so I can hear the English Dubs tracks.

That's PATHETIC, Anime Industry. Wake up and smell the dying market. Time to get on the Streaming Bandwagon. Oh wait, you sorta have to. I don't think you really have a choice at this point...

DVD is going to end up like VHS, and Streaming Video will end up like TV replacing radio, except Streaming Video, due to its' simultaneous low cost and utilitarian nature, could very well replace both TV AND DVD in time, assuming the market continues to grow, which it's kind of obvious it will. TV and anime companies are complaining about illegal streams because Streaming stands to make a ton of money in advertising revenues/sales through sites like YouTube, Funimation.com, Roku, DirecTV, Netflix, Amazon Crunchyroll, ANN, and a bunch of interchangeable tech and hardware formats online and off (but mostly on), and this prosperity for Streaming video translates to an equivalent exchange of loss for both traditional TV and DVD, which will probably be replaced by such things as Ustream and Cartoon Network Video Live Broadcasting, YouTube, DirecTV, and Netflix HDMI and TV broadcasting. Streaming sites will continue to multiply and proliferate online and in compatibility to TV. What does all this mean, preferential treatments, which results in lost DVD Sales, and lost advertisings revenues. Billions of dollars lost by traditional sources in favor of Next Generation Streaming Technology. CN and Adult Swim set a good example of how to adapt to this changes. I'm gonna go watch their live stream broadcast of Squidbillies or whatever of on Adult Swim.com just to show my support of corporations taking the initiative to adapt. If they can adapt to my technology, I'll adapt to their business plan. Win/Win. Profit-Profit, on both sides. Not just one. It's only fair.

Well, I've still got my Amazon Author Store. And my App Developer Company StreamWave Developer Media. And my media company, Thunder-Lightning Media. And my Online TV Network ActionToonTV.

The Jo Ann Saga: JM Goes to Childhood Therapy

Jo Ann: A Profile:

Jo Ann was an unusual person. She's a child psychologist who lives and works primarily in Winter Park, Central Florida. She was my childhood therapist, and naturally as a result is one of the only people who is aware of all of my secret and private stories and life experiences from childhood, adolescence, and some of my adulthood, as I had an hour long interview with her once a week from early childhood to early adulthood. She was an NT/NF Rational temperament and was compassionate, to a point. And as bossy and as manipulative as she could be at times, there were benefits to confiding in her at the time. She never judged my worst traits or actions the way Hollywood or Japan did in their films and TV shows. She was a bit less cold and distant than that, and her goal was never to hurt or humiliate people the way your TV tries to. However, she did attribute the bullying of my neighbors I constantly tried to tell her about (I told her at least 40 or 50 times my neighbors were verbally harassing and bullying me from across my own fence, and each time she shrugged it off and attributed it to "My own self hatred, delusions of grandeur, and schizophrenic auditory hallucinations". She had my whole family lying to ourselves about the bullies in my neighborhood on Queen Elaine Drive and Guenavere in Casselberry, Florida. Something the police would later come to investigate with surveillance technology and hidden cameras later on, upon me reporting my neighbors continual offensive activities, and acts of bullying and harassment, to them numerous times. To say nothing of the ceaseless cyber stalking, harassment and bullying also attributed to Adult Swim, Brian Johnston, the media, and my local newer neighbor-bullies, who as it turns out smoke a lot of marijuana, do a lot of drugs and alcohol and "come after me every time they fail at life". But after years of denying I was cyberbullied by Brian Johnston and the pre-Facebook, pre-MySpace social media (Adult Swim, DeviantART, others), Jo Ann was finally cyberbullied herself by one of her own patients who was angry at Jo Ann telling her what to do as well, so suddenly now she believes in cyberbullying now that SHE'S the one getting targeted, yet she never believed in it when I said it to her 50,000 times. How ironic.

Rest In Peace, Nick

My condolences to the family of Nick, who passed away unexpectedly and tragically at the age of 24, a few days ago.

PIRATE IT!!! A User's Guide to the Pirate Bay...

http://www.thepiratebay.com

First, go to The Pirate Bay

Step 1: Simply type in the name of the movie, TV show, cartoon, software, or music album or song you would like to own a series or copy of.

Step 2: See what titles come up.

Step 3: Click on the tiny magnet symbol next to the title

Step 4: Open a sub-browser in a separate window.

Step 5: Download and keep BitTorrent Software on your computer.

Step 6: Click the term "Get this torrent" to download your free torrent

Step 7: Calibrate your BitTorrent dashboard

Step 8: Click the button(s) in your bit torrent download manager that send the torrent to your computer. Select a file destination for the torrent file. When okaying the download, be sure to decline all the adward, spyware, and viruses that look legit, but really want to KILL and SPY ON YOUR Hard drive and make it impossible to use.

Step 9: Finish downloading your torrent through BitTorrent, once the time bar completes

Step 10: Once you access the folder containing the downloaded torrent files on your computer, use a batch media converter (I prefer Wondershare) to convert all songs to mp3 files, and all video files to WMV files, which is compatible with most Windows formats. Bottom line: You must convert your files to the right format that matches up with your CPU before you can read, watch or listen to the torrents you download. Most torrents don't play in their initially uploaded formats. This is done to save the uploaders uploading time, and the downloaders downloading time, not to help with playback or definition of video.

Step 11: Enjoy you're sharing! Happy "Pirating"!

I Miss The Goths of the 90s

Whatever happened to them? Whatever happened to Spooky Gothic Culture.

It's been a decade since I've ever spoken directly to a Gothic person. I miss them.

Do they still exist? I miss Halloween, and Thrash Metal, and Goth Comics, and boots.
